fashion pastime

People want to wear things not only because they are trying to express themselves, but because it's something to do.

Fashion should be fun, not just used as a signaling tool to portray yourself to others as professional or sane. Hey, if you want to walk around looking like you only have socks on instead of whole shoes, GO FOR IT*!

If you want to wear a hamster hat as a real bag, you can do that toooooo!

Even looking like a children's plaything is stylish, normalized even. I just recently purchased this piece for my birthday so I can walk around looking like a life-size teddy bear:

I think all of this is a good thing because fashion has always reflected society and the human condition; it's amazing that we've reached a point where it seems we really don't care what people think when they look at us no matter how ridiculous we look. With everyone whining and complaining about having anxiety and panic attacks when the slightest discomfort comes along, being comfortable with outlandish sartorial expression is major progress.
