2017 was...interesting to say the least.

It was just a lot right from the start...and all the way to the end. All the linear parts of my life, primarily work, remained stable while other things would just...happen.

The list of unfortunate events is too long for my liking and I'd rather not recount any of them here, but I survived...not all of my clothing did--that Acne leather jacket has since been replaced for example along with many other items lost in said unfortunate events. Despite what I tend to post on this blog, I have never been truly materialistic. I do not attach my worth or any real meaning on to things like I do with people. 2017 really proved to me that material things of good quality are still replaceable, but good people are hard to find.

I did what I could to deal with it all; I took a couple trips to step away (and see Britney Spears! Will share later of course) and to reflect and recoup. I did this so often that I don't have any real 2018 resolutions because I was able to find my resolve in all those moments of being knocked around a bit. There's something special about finding a way to settle down after disruption. Yes, I did cry; yes, I did scream at people; yes, I did stay in bed longer than my usual sloth self...but I'm not drained, or defeated.

Finally, I've come to believe that the saying 'life goes on' doesn't really become apparent until you have watched it wither away right in front of you. However, watching death front and center doesn't make me afraid, it makes me even more ready to live.

Happy New Year!

true blue armour

I wanted to put together this lookbook in honor of Queen Bey infiltrating even more white spaces including the CMAs recently while being flanked by a few white women who most likely did not vote Trump (remember when Natalie Maines got her group exiled from the industry? ICONIC).

I almost peed my pants when this gorgeous sweat suit appeared on Net-a-porter, I ordered immediately to hell with waiting for holiday sales. First of all, the color is everything--I've always thought navy blue was the sexier cousin of black and this rich denim wash (with a subtle denim feel by the way) is absolutely flawless. The jersey interior is soft enough to wear without any layers underneath for those quick runs to the froyo place and the giant hood is so incognito-chic--I'm obsessed.

I know Bey is fond of wearing fur, as I am and I'm wondering if she's going to bless us with a winterized athleisure line? A shearling track suit maybe? A fur lined sports bra? Sounds ridiculous, but I know I wouldn't hesitate to type in my card numbers.

mormons and monsters | 2016 fall style lookbook

Outfit snaps from early fall when I was still in the midst of residual summer temps to now when things have cooled off. I can finally whip out the boots, leather and cashmere and start thinking about investing in more. So far my Mormon dress (by Co) and my shaggy monster jacket (by DKNY) are my favorite new pieces (that's legit the name some in the fashion world are calling this piece, so dramatic I love it). That trench and those white Ash boots are highly underused and I'm determined to change that along with replacing my fall Uggs which I've had since 2007 (I know, yikes)

style lookbook | ivy park and chiffon

I was hoping for a more tepid summer given the cooler temps of spring that warranted my heavy Vetements sweater dress day after day, but now I'm just trying my best not to get bitten by mosquitoes or melt in the almost 90 degree weather.

My Ivy Park onesie is like a Godsend (honestly she just never ceases to bless us now does she?) and I'm definitely looking to pick up several more pieces as soon as Net-a-porter gets their shit together and restocks my selections. Wearing this AA chiffon skirt makes me feel less like a homeless slob and more like......a lady? I don't even know, but the length and weight is perfect and as modest as my Mormon pinafore.

...global warming is too real and I'm over it.

...and here's how people with more money than me would wear a cropped sweater:

Rumi is a goddess of style inspiration; it actually didn't occur to me that my previously retired sweater would serve me better cropped until I saw this photo:

I just started following this sartorially intriguing red head. I'm loving the minimalism and the extreme contrast in hemlines here:

Vanessa is one of my top 5 style icons; she looks adorable with this dressy casual look:

This is from the BritBrit style archives; she wore this super distressed cropped sweater during a TRL appearance ('MEMBER TRL Y'ALL???); it's definitely one of my favorite looks from her.

Finally, it's their job to inspire us; here's supermodel Joan Smalls rocking a very cropped designer sweater while she strolls with one of my new favorite models, Jacquelyn Jablonski:
Already pinned another version of this-- don't care, that cropped sweater is everything. #JoanSmalls and #JacquelynJablonski
