Nail Art and Review | Holographic Harmony

image
Green Holo, Silver Holo and Pink Holo
If you read this post, you probably saw this coming and if you happen to live in my area, they're 99 cents (down from $10!) at UO so grab 'em before they sell out.

They're all perfect by default, but a review is still necessary:

SHINE: IT'S FUCKING HOLOGRAPHIC YO! A top coat helps though.
FORMULA: Opacity in one coat--technically. The thing is, because it's basically a light refracting substance, a thin layer achieves the holographic look flawlessly, however, when direct light is not present, any streakiness in application is noticeable so it's really up to you on how many coats to apply...I guess just stay out of the shadows if you want to dazzle 24/7.
Another Note: It dries VERY quickly and the brushes of UO polishes are very small so that means it's a little tricky to apply a smooth even layer. Make sure to get a really good glob on there in the first swipe because it literally starts to cement in the time it takes to dip back into the bottle to fill in any gaps.

...I guess that thin brush will help me use them sparingly.

This look was inspired by a YouTuber I follow named Ilyjessicaomg, the girl always has the coolest and most random nail art and I thought the colored spots at the base helped enhance the holography (that should totally be a class you can take in college...).

...taken with no flash, just the sunlight hitting them through the window in my room.

Spots created with L'Oreal "club privé", Milani black and white nail art polishes, Sinful Colors "amethyst" and Revlon "sweet tart"

There's a "large print" holographic polish available too for $5 and I think I'll be picking that one up next, I need my nails to look magical as fuck for the rest of the summer.

Day 79: ...still untouched and unmoved.

Shoe Unboxing and Review | BDG Quarter-Strap High-Top Wedge-Sneaker

As I previously stated, efforts to secure POTUS Barack Obama's re-election was the only reason I ordered these shoes and I was very pleased to have them arrive within 48 hours of me placing the order on Election Day.
The people at Urban Outfitters get right to the point when it comes to packaging; when I cut open the bag, all I got was some shoes in a box. No dust jackets. No shape stuffing. None of that extra shit. I didn't mind at all.
In addition to suede leather details, the interior is lined with canvas which is used in numerous U.O. pieces.
I walked around the house in them to find the 3.5-inch incline pretty comfy along with a fair amount of traction from the rubber sole. My only complaint is that I wish the ball of the foot had a bit more padding, but I'm not sure if that will be a factor after walking around in them for a full day.
Overall, I think Urban Outfitters did an excellent job designing a quality shoe instead of just a straight up Bekket high-top knockoff. Moreover, the Chinese did a really good job in the construction so I definitely see myself wearing these over-hyphenated shoes for many seasons to come.

Barack Obama Got Me New Shoes!

Since racist white people (sometimes referred to as conservatives*) want to overly attribute this nation's shortcomings to Obama, I figured I should give him completely undeserved credit for my newest purchase.
After I fulfilled my civic duty, I headed over to Urban Outfitters to see if the top item on my wants list had gone on sale since I tried them on a month ago. Because I voted, to make sure that Mormon demon and his evil minions didn't take office I got 20 percent off my purchase (soon to be delivered).

When I returned, I watched the POTUS rack up electoral votes...the intensity almost stopped my heart. There was a moment when he was down 9 electoral votes and the NBC news anchors were starting to sound nervous (although mostly objective, it's clear NBC leans a bit more left than right). As the red/blue map turned more red than blue, I felt my mouth get dry and my guts start to churn (WHY YOU GOTTA MAKE ERRYBODY WAIT OHIO???)...I had to change the channel to Sons of Anarchy to distract myself. When I flipped back, the local news had come on and apparently 45 percent of Michiganders were no longer here for the black guy plus, certain proposals that should have passed did not, which I also found disturbing...

I flipped back about an hour later to see that Obama had defeated that rich white dude 274 to 203.

I guess I won't have to move to Canada after all.

*I'm 100 percent unconcerned about being politically correct so please calm down, no one cares.

My Summer Fashion Essentials: Who Wears Short Shorts? I DO!

I found these shorts in my Dad's basement as a pair of trouser flare jeans that would have fit had they not been about 3 inches too short. I loved the fly closure, the box-cut pockets and the dark wash; I went with a really simple straight cut to accentuate the vintage style.
I found these shorts on the same day as the first and due to the baggier, high-waisted fit, I knew I couldn't go with the standard cut, so I chose to snip them at a diagnal similar to the One Teaspoon shorts I see on NastyGal.com. I also bleached them in a tie-dye like pattern (see them styled HERE).
These are my go-to standard cutoffs, also a DIY from a vintage pair I found.
If I were to wear any one of my denim cutoffs cuffed up, they could get pretty short...like butt-cheek short, so I bought these cute floral print biker shorts at Urban Outfitters to wear as a layering piece underneath.
Everybody is into the American Apparel disco pants...except for me.
Disco shorts? I'm all over it.

What's your favorite style of shorts this summer?

My Summer Fashion Essentials: Sheerness Realness

I have yet to wear these dresses, but if this heat keeps up, I'm sure I'll find an occasion.
This skirt works well over shorter, tighter items and can even be worn as a dress.
I always trip on these pant legs, but they make really comfy lounge wear.
I basically want to wear this shawl kimono thing everyday this summer and I definitely see it as a layering piece in the fall.

{skirt is American Apparel; everything else is Urban Outfitters}
